Thread subject: Diptera.info :: Rather big Muscidae (?) (May-18, 2010) --> Fannia lustrator (Fanniidae)

Hello!
This male from the forest border yesterday morning (at 9-11 °C, northwest Germany) resembled
Fannia lustrator (Fanniidae) in colouration and habitus. But it was at least 9-10 mm large! What else could it be?
Mydaea urbana? (Too slender?) There were several of them, all this size.

Strange! I have never seen such a big Fanniidae, thank you!
Today I saw this species again (at least I think it was the same). The males were at least 8 mm, a female (last pic) only 4-5 mm.

Fannia lustrator is a big Fannia (6 to 9 mm) !
Your additionnal pictures show the female of Fannia lustrator pic 1 & 2), the third picture another species of
Fannia (a female too, with broader frons).

Thanks! I had noticed, that the first animal of my second series had more separated eyes, but much less so than the female on the last picture. So I thought it was a male nevertheless.
