3mm, Clitheroe England, 1 May 2010.

I'm not used to seeing Lauxaniids in this size.

This one sank without comment. Can anyone help? I can try for better photos if needed.

Stephen.

If it is indeed Lauxaniidae it should be Cnemacantha muscaria...

Thanks Paul. It seemed to tick all the boxes for Lauxaniidae in Unwin's key, but I may have gone wrong. All the Cnemacantha muscaria in the forum have strongly darkened wings - but I think they are all female. Is the male different in this respect?

Hi,
Cnemacantha muscaria is correct. It is not dimorfism on wings, wings of this aspecimen are unussually light.

Thank you Katka. I had another look at the specimen, and the shading on the wings is perhaps a little more apparent than in the photos, but still very light.

Stephen.
