With both bright colors and interesting markings, I was hoping this fly would be easy to identify to species. But while I did find other images of it on the Internet, they were identified only as Chlorodpidae.
Size 2.5 mm, date 7 July 2006, place West Virginia USA, near a small stream.
This fly had a wonderful way of flying, a sort of hovering flight by which it moved only very slowly toward its destination. It reminded me of the type of flight damselflies use.
ID help appreciated!
