Thread subject: Diptera.info :: Bibio femorata? Hungary > B femoralis

This male was found in E-Hungary, forest. Smaller, around 8 mm. Last Year I tried to catch one on the same spot, but couldn't. They were there for only one week also in March and than perished for one year. I only saw males. Now I'm happy that I could cathch and photograph one :)

Bibio johannis male
Dark haired, very dark stigma and often (in Central Europe) femora reddish.
Very very common.

Sorry, but picture 2 is Bibio femoralis, not B. johannis. Notice the pear-shaped first tarsomere of hind leg, which is characteristic for thisd species. The black tip of hind tibia, and black tips of first and second tarsomeres of hind legs are also generally present in femoralis. I am not sure that picture 1 is the same species, but it might be.

Interesting.
I'm not familiar with femoralis.
I see your point on the hind metatarsus in the second pic.
