Thread subject: Diptera.info :: Bombyliidae for ID

The follow Diptera be photograph at March 2007
Habitat is a sandy Wadi at the most extremist desert area, located in the Arava Valley (Rift valley) at east of Israel (on the border with Jordan).

March is ideal time in this area. not so hot and flowering at the peck in the sandy grounds (The sands keep moisture for long time)

ID as Bombyliidae but not beyond that. any clue appreciate

Size: ~5mm

wowowo!!!! This is not Bombyllidae BUT the spectacular Mythicomyiidae. MAYBE a Platypygus sp. great great fly!!! I love them! :D

not sure about the genus. More later I will see with care. But family is 100% sure. ;) The other fly is intriguing me and it is another fly out of this world!

This is a female Cyrtisiopsis melleus (Loew, 1856). However, there are probably undescribed species lurking.
