Actually, I have now re-checked this specimen against my slides, and it is a male
Conops silaceus. According to the checklist of Carles-Tolra & Baez,
silaceus is known from Spain but not previously recorded from Portugal. There is a good photo of
scutellata on the forum by Picotverd, 15/8/08 22.39 for comparison.
C silaceus is more robust and yellower than
scutellata, and the black frontal marking is horizontal (vertical in
scutellata).
