* date - 2008.08.17
* size - about 5 mm (small fly)
* habitat - farmland
* substrate - wild
Daucus carota flower
I think this is a male of Cistogaster sp.

I think you are right, though I'd loved to see the wing venation.
If Cistogaster, I think you only have mesnili, and not globosa.

Theo, this time I have no wing venation photos. I only took two photos. I tried to catch it, but it run away. Today I was in the same spot, I didn't see it - it was not so warm like yesterday. But I've seen lots of Cylindromyia and maybe a totally black female Cistogaster. I can take wing venation photos of this last Cistogaster as I caught one specimen. :)

well, Theo. Good news. I thought that I took only 2 photos. But I took 5 photos. And one of them shows clearly the wing venation. :) I will upload it in a few moments.

is it possible to say by sure with the wing venation the species for this male Cistogaster? I caught a female CIstogaster yesterday (soon I will launch the photos)

Jorge, a misunderstanding.
I wanted to see the wing venation to be sure that it is Cistogaster.
Indeed, it is.
globosa and mesnili can only be distinguished by genitalia.
However, you don't have globosa. So it should be mesnili.
If you want to be really sure, I need to study the genitalia

thanks Theo. I really thougth that you would need to see the wing venation to split them. SO it will be just Cistogaster. With high probability to be more mesnili than the globosa. i don't have the specimen. :(
