Hi

I found this fly in final afternoon on Tuesday in Vila Nova do Ceira - about 20 km-30 km of Coimbra.

It is a Gonia, but which one?

EDIT: Title changed from "Tachinidae - Gonia sp." to "Tachinidae - Gonia cf. ornata (melanic)"

Hi Jorge

Are the parafacialia really that grey, or is this the lighting of the pic ?
First impression was G. atra, however, that does not fit. The face suggests a melanistic female G. ornata. But it does look peculiar

the colour is natural. The parafacialia is *really* grey. :D
It calls my attention the very peculiar colour for this Gonia.

In that case, the wings are probably genuinely darkened as well, in which case I return to my first impression

Gonia atra.
