Hi

Today I found my first Dalmannia. One of the most beautiful conopids around. :D I think this could be a Dalmannia cf. dorsalis (this fly has about 6 mm). I found five Dalmannia in the field. TOday was 30?C here in Viseu.

:D the same habitat of the famous CYRTUS GIBBUS. I will take photos of the habitat soon (i hope tomorrow). But it has Raphanus raphanistrum, Foeniculum vulgare (where I found 3 Dalmannia), Pinus spp., Quercus sp., Vinis vitifera, lots of Rumex spp.; some Cynara sp. (without flower yet). It is a protected place in a valley with many Pinus spp.. It is rare to feel the wind.

Also I found 3 MYOPA PICTA today! Hooray! :D This fly is awesome! It has the most elegant flight I've ever seen. Very sinuous and fast. I will show photos them more later. ;) It is a "monster".
Yesterday when I arrived here in final of the afternoon I took my In?s and we went to the field. She caught RIvellia syngenisae. After 10 minutes in the field she wanted to come back. :| We found one very strange fly, maybe a sciomyzid, with full dark wings! I pinned it, and hopefully I will show photos of it too.

This must be Dalmannia punctata. It has ONLY one spot in the middle of the tergites 2, 3; and NOT two as we can see in Dalmannia dorsalis.
http://home.hccne...html#item2
it shows D. dorsalis, and the specimens, I have, shows clearly only one spot in the middle, and it is very small (around 0,5 mm).

Dalmannia punctata... waiting for confirmation.
As you can see only one spot in the middle of tergites 2 and 3. Not two spots like the D. dorsalis.

Photos taken today by 1.30 pm. Temperatures around 25 ?C. Wind scale Beaufort - value 2.

1 - the place where I found one of 5 Dalmannia (found in 5th April 2006; and more one today at 1.45 pm near point 2)

2 - the place of the famous Cyrtus gibbus (not well visible because it is hidden)

this photo shows the place where I found one of those 5 Dalmannia. The photo shows Northwest direction. The anterior showed the Nordeast-East direction.

Today, at 1.30 pm I found another Dalmannia... near the point 2 of the anterior photo.

It is definetly Dalmannia punctata. You will find a key for the palearctic species with pictures of the abdomen of each species at my personal homepage www.schwebfliegen.de/stuke.html

Best wishes,

Jens-Hermann

An Asteraceae red flower. I think this is the correct family for the plant. :|
Next weekend I will show you a photo of the flower. :P
