By lagoon in the moors in Tapioles, Zamora province (CW Spain) on 24.03.2016. Is it possible to go further than female Chironomidae? Much bigger than the usual for that family. Thanks in advance! Smile

Thanks a lot, John!! Smile Smile That was much more than I could expect! Smile

As I can see venation is peculiar in this genus:

Do you think we can be sure of the genus at least? It would be great but I have no means to be sure without other's help.

If it is indeed Stictochironomus, there are 3 species recorded for Spain in this genus. This would be clearly something to start my research! Thanks a lot!! Wink

I'm willing to ID to genus Stictochironomus. I don't know enough about European species.

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
