Did I hurt any rules, or is that nice fly unknown.

Thanks for comments, Siga

I think you are right, it is Bombylius sp. (and a very attractive one), but I can't suggest a species.

However, a rather similar fly can be seen here from Turkey:

and here:

Greetings,
Heneik

Thanks for the hint. I suppose its the same species. I watched ''my'' fly for many minutes, because it was not shy and did not mind my many attempts to get a good photo, which with my camera means to approach a distance from only a few cm. It usually stayed flying without changing position only a few cm above the sandy ground. When I approached to close, it changed position for less then one m and then stayed flying there.

More impressing than the black-white stripes on Notum were the black-white stripes on abdomen, that unfortunately are not well to see at the photo

So the species seems to be the No 378 lol

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
