Hello everyone,

For my first post on diptera.info, I propose a Tabanidae found in Northern France (28/05/2016), in an arborescent swamp (Alnus glutinosa, Salix, ...).

I tried different keys.
The French one seems too old.
The Hungarian one brings me to Tabanus tropicus bisignatus = Hybomitra bimaculata bisignata
The English one is... wierd. The key suppose that the specimen is partly orange, to say later that it can have no trace of this color, it's a bit confusing.

So, my last word will be Hybomitra bimaculata bisignata.

I'll attach better pics if I can.

Welcome !

Yes, that is indeed the f. bisignata of Hybomitra bimaculata.

Try the dutch key ! (Zeegers & van Haaren, 2000).

Great! Spent some time on this one, I was even wondering if it was the correct genus

And your key might be a good reason for me to start learning dutch Grin

Thank you!

Is the Dutch key available anywhere? Various searches have drawn a blank.

It is sold out and the publisher refuses a reprint.
He is no longer interested in this kind of work

Pity.

Maybe you need to complain with him: KNNV Uitgeverij, Utrecht

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
