Hi, This night I had a tiny guest in my bathroom, sitting in a yellow plastic bowl. The camera revealed that it was a fly with peculiar wings that had infuscated margins. I have no idea how to name it, so please help! Thanks, Sundew Sundew attached the following image: [168.04Kb] Edited by Sundew on 01-08-2016 11:52 |

Some more pics (if the auto-focus only knew what character / bristle is important!)

Campichoeta obscuripennis, perhaps? (Campichoetidae)

That's a new family for me - great! Two species of Campichoeta are said to occur in our region - C. obscuripennis and C. punctum. The first one seems to have all-over darkened wings, but the latter shows the dark margins, as depicted in http://galerie-in...155118.htm. So I'll name my fly C. punctum as well. Many thanks, dear Tony, to lead me to the right trace. |

Scrolling through the gallery and other sources, I find inconsistencies concerning the wing pattern (homogeneous darkening versus marginal darkening also in C. obscuripennis), compare http://www.fugleo...;ID=344794 versus http://www.dipter...to_id=5403 ff. Nevertheless I favour C. punctum, as it has a yellow face and antennal base, whereas in C. obscuripennis it is all dark (http://www.dipter...d_id=63583). |
