Hi there,

this marsh fly has been found on a meadow in the Vienna forests (Wienerwald) at 500m elevation.

Can the species be determined?

Best,
Lorin

Lorin

Thank you, Paul.
What feature would be required to nail down C. marginata?
C. amoena and C. fabricii could be ruled out, I guess.

Best,
Lorin

Yes it is Coremacera marginata; but another species (? is it a true species ?) is Coremacera obscuripennis which is very similar to C. marginata.

With its nearest distribution according to faunaeur.org on The Balkans, so I excluded it. Unless these maps are based on deficient data...

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
