Please help ID. The local people told me that these flies bite, and they referred to them as "tabanos". I thought at first it would be a "bee fly". This fly was large, at least 20 mm long, not counting mouth parts. It was the size of a bumble bee.

The long-beaked biting flies in South America are Tabanidae subfamily Pangoniinae. |

Yes subfamily Pangoniinae, more specifically tribe Scionini, genus Fidena. There are many species in the genus, I don't know which one this is |
