Veeeeeery tricky...

Cannot see well the last sternite but I have a feeling this is a male Machimus of the nevadensis group.

Once more the opinion of Reinoud is needed. I am not sure I am interpreting correctly what I see.

LOL.... There are several things to distinguish M. concinnus from nevadensis (the two are very similar) I can't see enough to be sure. M. concinnus is rather small and usually only has two bristles on the hind margin of the scutellum. I think that is what i see, It should have only one bristle on the underside of F1, i see more : ) But the shape of the hypopygium seems to point more at concinnus again..... My gut feeling is concinnus...(despite the nbr of bristles on F1). CF
Greetings,

Reinoud

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
