Hello! This one is known as Tephritis simplex (Loew, 1844). Very peculiar Mediterranean species. |

Today I collected the female. Both were on Silybum marianum. Thank you Severin. |

This group of species is associated with Tragopogon. Flies often overwintering inside shrubs and grasses, and certainly have nothing to do with Sylibum.

Camargue winters are mild and Silybum quickly becomes exuberant. Indeed, it is a refuge plant for many insects and amphibians as Hyla meridionalis. Thank you both. Edited by christoophe on 27-03-2016 16:52 |
