Tiny flies on wrapped up honeybee, in scrubby grass in Chongwe Distr., Lusaka, Zambia.

For flies elsewhere, the Black 'M' on the head is mentioned as indicative of Desmometopa, which seems to have a few Afrotropical species, but I'm not sure if the same characters hold for the continent.

That's oaky for Desmometopa but it will not yield a species ID. Smile

Genus is more than I originally hoped for with these grainy photos. Thanks for the confirmation.

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
