Henrik, this one is related to T. perspicillaris (two pale abdominal bands) but doesn't fit this species. Unfortunately, there are several possibilities I am not familiar with... Do you have more pictures, where the colour of legs can be seen well? It doesn't matter if other parts of the fly are out of focus. I just need to see the legs Smile

Oh, I have a whole set of bad pictures of this fly! Grin These two show some of the legs.

Superb! Smile They show clearly that femora are dark and tibiae are pale! That should help! Smile And I can see it has pale palpi too (second picture)!

I shall go through the keys and descriptions again tomorrow (I need to go to sleep now Wink ). Hope to come back with good news! Wink

You are very, very kind! Have a good rest, and please excuse me for my stubborn insistence on getting a proper ID for my Bombyliidae...

It is a pleasure for me to help if I can! Smile

Regarding the fly, I am not as sure as i was with the previous ones...

The keys take me to Thyridanthrax mutilus. Description doesn't fit as well as I would wish but still it is the closer to your creature. But at least, it is the one that fits better of all possibilities and the only one specifically cited in Rhodes. I cannot guarantee it is that species, but I am almost sure it is Smile

GrinGrinGrin This was a tough case, I think... It seems to me that there is no other choice than T. mutilus.
Thank you very much!
Kind regards,
Henrik

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
