Can anyone suggest a family for this fly? Light trap, Townsville, Queensland. Graeme Cocks attached the following image: [66.25Kb] Edited by Graeme Cocks on 12-10-2015 16:44 |

I think Sphaeroceridae, Limosininae. The short hind basitarsus should put it in Sphaeroceridae, which has species with spines on the costa. A dorsal shot would help. |

Dorsal as requested. I wonder why he needs so many spines? Graeme Cocks attached the following image: [94.67Kb] |

Limosininae, but I can't place it comfortably into an American genus. Australian Sphaeroceridae were revised in 1973 (http://www.publis...JZS022.htm, not open access), but the Pacific catalog says many species remain undescribed. |
