Hello,
Photo taken in Pontevedra (NW Iberian Peninsula) on 11/09/2015. It is possible to ID this male Chironomidae?
Thanks

I'd say Psectrotanypus varius, but wing markings are a little strange...

Thank you Tony.
I added a bigger photo but I do not think it helps much.
Regards,
Luis

It does help. I retract my suggestion of Psectrotanypus - I think this is another tanypodine, probably in the Pentneurini. Maybe John Carr will help out with the genus? If you still have the specimen, then we should be able to get it to species.

Thanks again Tony.
I'm sorry but I have not the specimen. I spend my time in photographing moths (and other animals) that come to light house at night. So white that you see in the photos is the front door.
Best regards,
Luis

Do you have a closeup of tarsomere 3 of mid leg?

See this thread: http://www.dipter...d_id=67679. Note comments by user mspies, who is an expert on Chironomidae.

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
