Denmark, Jylland (middle East), near Odder, at the edge of a forest where there is a small pond, around with small meadows, Outsidefotos: kuv, 21th of June 2015. After looking to the Diptera Gallery I think because of the yellow antenna it could be Platypalpus cursitans, female. Please help for ID.

Thank you very much Paul. Could you give me a hint for the right family - I couldn't find a similar fly in the Gallery ...

Unfortunately Igor Shamshev, our top Platypalpus expert, hasn't been active in the forum for a year. You could write a Private Message to "igor", he might answer if he finds time to. Your pictures are good, he would surely supply the name of a species group at least.

Thank you very much Sundew. I'll try it and later on report the result.

Igor wrote to me: " I guess that your species is Platypalpus major (Zetterstedt, 1842)...."

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
