A medium-sized (12mm?) and rather flightly Conopid, seems to key out to Conops stylatus under Krober's ancient key (vol 14 of the Annals of the Natal Museum), for which it largely fits the description; I believe this is now a synonym of the widely distributed C. elegans; does it fit for this species?

I realise that with only one angle, it's not easy to be certain.

On scrubby, heavily disturbed sandy ground (same as the Archiconops just posted on banks of Luangwa river, Chief Nyalugwe's area (Eastern Province, Zambia)

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
