As indicated in my previous mailing I recently returned from co-leading my annual tour to Bulgaria where as indicated previously in these mailings my main role is as a Botanist, though I can never resist looking for interesting insects! Among the many horsefly species that entered our bus during the week this one was unfamiliar to me. I think that it might possibly be Silvius alpinus but I would be grateful for confirmation or correction of this by someone more experienced as a Dipterist than I am. This one came onto the vehicle at Roupite Hot Springs on 21 July 2015.

Many thanks as always

Many thanks Theo. I thought it would be you would pick up on these three mailings and I am very grateful to you as always. At least I got the right genus for this!

Very best wishes

Alan

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
