As indicated in my previous mailing I recently returned from co-leading my annual tour to Bulgaria where as indicated previously in these mailings my main role is as a Botanist, though I can never resist looking for interesting insects! Among the many horsefly species that entered our bus during the week this one was unfamiliar to me. I think that it might possibly be Silvius alpinus but I would be grateful for confirmation or correction of this by someone more experienced as a Dipterist than I am. This one came onto the vehicle at Roupite Hot Springs on 21 July 2015. Many thanks as always Alan Alan Outen attached the following image: [95.72Kb] |
