I recently returned from co-leading my annual tour to Bulgaria where as indicated previously in these mailings my main role is as a Botanist, though I can never resist looking for interesting insects! The curious looking fly had entered our bus at Roupite Hot Springs on 21 July 2015. I think it is Hippobosca variegata but would bet very grateful for confirmation or correction of this by someone more experienced as a Dipterist than I am. Many thanks as always Alan Edited by Alan Outen on 01-08-2015 18:20 |

Variegata is not European. It is H. equina. Theo |

Many thanks Theo. I have no idea why I came up with variegata here as in my photo-listing I had put H. equina! Alan Edited by Alan Outen on 01-08-2015 09:20 |
