Hello,
is this Lipoptena cervi? I found it on 29.6.2015 in our bathroom (Furth im Wald, Bavarian Forest, Germany).

Regards
Ingrid

No, that is Ornithomyia avicularia.

Lipoptena cervi flies in late summer till late autumn (and is different).

the title still reads "Lipoptena"......

As for the correct spelling, that depends (possibly) on your definition.
If you understand 'proper' as in 'proper ancient Greek', it is more than obvious that the correct spelling is "Ornithomyia" as in all '-myia".

If you understand it as "according to the Code accepting hunderds of misspellings by Rondani and a few by others" you have to look it up yourself (for instance at www.diptera.org). I don't care.

It is and has been my opinion (like Herting) that science means also correcting mistakes, so that is what I do !

Hello Theo,

Yes, because at first I wanted to wait for your answer because Fauna Europaea said Ornithomya.

I choosed the "correct" Version! ;-)

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
