Cyrtus gibbus or another Acroceridae species?
Thanks in advance for your advice.

Fantastic photo. Did you have a chance to observe the fly for while? Was it just resting? And is this a spider's egg sack? Was it hanging down from the vegetation? Did you collect fly and egg sack? I am asking all these things because I started to work on the genus' taxonomy some time ago.

Hi Christian,

The photo dates from 6 years ago so I can't remember the context in which it was taken. Except that I didn't collect anything. Sorry to disappoint you. Anyway good luck with your research.
Best regards,
David

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
