I think this is a dipteran. Found in the north of Chile, in the coastal desert. Something about genus or family? Edited by Roden on 25-04-2015 14:44 |

One of the Orthorrhapha. Do you have a clearer view of wing veins, or other angles? The two flies have different antennae despite looking similar. The head of the nearer fly reminds of of Phthiriinae (Bombyliidae), which in North America would have broader wings. Chile has many endemic or Southern Hemisphere groups I am not familiar with. I considered Ceratomerinae, which have narrow wings and a beak, but they have longer antennae. My first impression was Oedaleinae, but they have shorter beaks. |
