I cries out 'Calliphoridae' to me, but with those antipods you never know.
Is the arista plumose ?
Did you check the postscutellum ?

Yes the arista is plumose. Yes the subscutellum is prominent, in that it has a large surface area and is pushing the scutellum up, but is not bulging.

I bet my shoes this is a Calliphorid.
The subscutellum in Tachindae should be very convex, as a "swimming band" ( see previous post on that matter).

Well that clears it up nicely. I've been calling a lot of stuff tachinid just because of a large subscutellum. I wear one of those swimming bands all the time, can't get rid of it. Frown

So I did not grasp your 23:02 posting.
Calliiphoridae or Tachinidae (swimband or no swimband, that os the question)

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
