Hello,

The hind femora is not arched and the arista is plumose : Volucella bombylans seems to be a better fit.

Hi,

end of May also seems to late for C. ranunculi.
Best regards,
Jürgen

Very long hairs in the arista and some traces of M1 vein orientation (it doesn't continue straight to wing border quite in axis with R4+5...you cannot see how it changes direction here, but you can check that it doesn't continue straight) help guiding to Volucella, and considering the rest of the characters --> female V. bombylians

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
