Atlantic rain forest, close to sea level, Rio de Janeiro. January 6th, 2015- I simply have little clue to what kind of fly this is. My memory say that the length was about 15 mm or less. Possibly Rhopalogaster, family Asilidae. |

This is definitely a female Rhopalogaster sp. (good ID John!). The antennae are very long in this genus (= longer than the thorax) and are pointing upward, toward the camera, in this photo. |
