Hi Nikita

And mighty interesting ! Looks like a Pangoniinae or possibly a very weird Bouvieromyiini or Rhinomyzini (which is very poorly represented in the Australasian). I have the relevant key but would need to see the specimen myself, since I have little experience with New Guinea.
Send me a PM if you want to send the material.

Thank you, Theo.
1. See PM
2. Look at one more Pangoniinae (sorry, from 2000 m asl only)

SO, I studied the specimen.
It is the male of Scaptia (Pseudoscione) albipilosa.

Known only from the type locality..... Lake Habbema ! Sounds familiar ?

The other species of Scaptia (Pseudoscione) from 2000 m. is new to science. Need to work on that.

I misjudged the descriptions in the literature. It turned out to be Copidapha (previously: Scaptia) unilineata (Oldroyd, 1947)

Sorry for not reporting back.

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
