Found on a heap of Honey Fungus (Armillaria) on a stump in my nearby public park on 2 Nov 2014, Ipswich, East Suffolk (TM163450). I think it is a male Crumomyia roserii. Any comment, and especially confirmation of the species, would be very much appreciated.

Best wishes,
Martin

Here is the place I found the fly

Looking at Brian Pitkin's key to British Sphaerocerids for important characters, here is a close-up of the wing, which suggests Copromyzinae.

... and the marginal scutellar setae are also indicative of Copromyzinae...

tibiae yellow brown (especially mid and hind tibiae - see hind legs photos and lateral and ventral views above), anepimeron dusted and, as previously illustrated, no hook on male hind 1st tarsomere -> Crumomyia roserii.

Comments, please...

Paul,
If you have a minute... please... or would you be able to look at the fly if I popped it in the post?
Best wishes,
Martin

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
