Both from 2014-06-07 are Notiphila, the most common of the few genera of Ephydridae with costa ending at R4+5.

Thank you John. There are a few similar looking species in the gallery. Is a closer determination possible? Regards, Ingo

It is female. Almost all diagnostic characters are lost on this photo, but if basal coloration of fore tibiae is really black. it is more likely Notiphila venusta (than Notiphila maculata).Smile

Thanks! Sorry, I don´t have a key of Ephydridae here. Searching for this species I found http://www.dipter...d_id=62573. Well, 4 setae on midtibia are present too. Greetings, Ingo

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
