While I saw studying the fly, its right-hand rear leg became detached. Here is a shot showing it from behind and from in front. I have great difficult working out which setae are which!

Best wishes,
Martin

I think Paregle audacula:

Notopleuron area haired
Very small orbitals present
One stronger presutural acrostichal followed by rows of finer hairs
Long and small proboscis

To confirm for 100 % ID, a better look on the genitals is needed.
But I am almost convinced this must be P. audacula.

Thanks Johanna. I've saved a copy of the chaetotaxy drawings to study. I'll have a closer look at the genitals and if possible post some photos of them.

I've redone some images covering the features mentioned already...
Side thorax including notopleuron, though I think part of it may be obscured by the blurred end of the pin.

... and genitalia.
Does this show enough detail, or do I need to get the caustic soda ready?

Thanks Johanna! There are no records for that species in my county of Suffolk on the UK National Biodiversity Network's Gateway, though that is probably due to under-reporting as few people submit records for Diptera.
Best wishes,
Martin
