Can anyone suggest a genera for this Tachinidae? I think it's in the Tachininae?

Great photos Graeme - it certainly looks like a tachinid but if it has a subscutellum then it would clinch it Smile I don't know the Australian fauna well enough to comment on what it might be though Smile

Thanks Chris. The subscutellum is not very prominent, although the scutellum is well raised up. However the barcode locates it among other tachinids.
I've just taken up stacking pictures, hence the improvement in the quality.

Thanks John. I'll check that out. I'm working my way through Crosskey at the moment.

Page 25 of issue 27 of Tachinid Times may be entertaining, if only marginally relevant. Try to pick out the Tachinidae without reading the captions.

It is in Goniini / Eryciini / winthemiini somewhere, definitely not Rutelia

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
