This horse-fly was walking apart from the river, where it could have emerged, but also one wing was not good to fly.

Locality: Iberian peninsula: Catalonia: Girona province: Beuda: Riera de Rajolins: 31T DG77: 350 masl
Date: 22/06/2014
Habitat: Small stream riverside, with rocks, Salix spp. and stone-oak forest
Sex: Female
Size: 20.5 mm

It looks like T. spodopteroides but frontal index is 1: 3.3, when following Fauna Iberica keys (Portillo-Rubio, 2002), it should be 1:4 (In fact it is 3.8)

Yes, that is spodopteroides, nice work.

The point is, that the frontal stripe is much narrower in all other species !

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
