the antennae suggest a tachinid but it doesn't fit anything I've seen. What can be said of these images? there are bristles going some way up the facial ridge, I can't quite see if the mouth is projecting though. Taken in north london this week

Apperently, you have never seen Compsilura concinnata ? Note the lacking ocellar bristles.

Thanks Theo and Valerio,

this was at least twice the size of my Compsilura specimen, so although I felt strongly there was something obvious or familar about it that I was missing, I don't think I'd have thought of that. The facial features match nicely though

Compsilura is a gregarious parasitoid, and this can easily lead to dwarfism.
