Hi Theo - are you really sure of that? I have a pair of Germaria angustata collected by Steve Downes from the known UK locality and they don't look like this at all. Germaria angustata has a longer body and string median marginals. The bend in the median vein is also quite sharply angled and the face is pale. Here are a few threads with photos like mine: http://www.dipter...pid=177660 http://www.dipter...d_id=31101 Edited by ChrisR on 17-07-2014 19:05 Manager of the UK Species Inventory in the Angela Marmont Centre for UK Biodiversity at the Natural History Museum, London. |

It's an odd one - certainly would be nice to see a specimen to check what it is. The face looks very interesting - very wide.

Right. So let's rethink this. I think it is the male of Elodia morio. That is why it is so difficult to recognize, I have seen only one in my life. Theo |

I'm lost. There are strong apical scutellar bristles present, so no Lydina. Wing venation does not agree with Elodia. There are several setulae on base of vein R, so no Elfiini. ?? Theo |

So, my final call: Male Synactie parvula. If this is correct, it is clear why it was so diifficult. If not, I won't do another try. Theo |
