First time I challenge Pkatypezidae Shock.
All you said about family and gender is correct.

1) dm-cu present, no median fork, 1st tarsomere III really elongate -> s.f. Callomyiinae

2) 1st flagellomere short/conical (I admit not much visible), R1 with micro-spines (clearly visible in the last photo...zooming a little in the sc area) -> Callomyia sp.

C. elegans male.

Hope the description is useful. Otherwise sorry for all this speeches! Smile

The yellow halterae indicate that this is either C. amoena or C. elegans. I cannot decide between these two.

C. elegans has silver abdominal markings on apical margins of T3 and T4, while this one has not them. So you can exclude elegans.

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
