Hi, Flesh fly photographed in August 2013 near Vancouver, BC, Canada. I've provided a couple of different views. Cheers, EC www.macrocritters.wordpress.com Edited by Ecooper on 11-04-2014 17:42 |

It is actually a Muscidae. So change the title and wait for the Muscid-experts to show up. Theo |

Hi, I'm no expert of cause, but here in Europe this would be genus Muscina I think. Best regards, Jürgen -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Juergen Peters Borgholzhausen, Germany WWW: http://insektenfo... -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= |

I thought the dorsal markings on the thorax indicated that it was a flesh fly, but now that I look at it they really aren't stripes. I'll change the title. If anyone could give quick ponters on how you can tell this is a Muscid I'd really appreciate it. Cheers, EC |

The bend in the median vein is by far to blunt to consider Sarcophagidae. By the way, Muscina is an excellent suggestion (tip of scutellum red) Theo |

Hi! Zeegers wrote: The bend in the median vein is by far to blunt to consider Sarcophagidae. But it's typical for many Muscina species. The eyes seem quite far apart. Does that indicate it is a female? Yes. Best regards, Jürgen -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Juergen Peters Borgholzhausen, Germany WWW: http://insektenfo... -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= |
