Hello from Paris (France) !

This Diptera, at Cheval Blanc (in Luberon, France) is a Neomochtherus sp..
On the excellent Insect french forum Insectes.org, people think Neomochtherus schineri or Neomochtherus pallipe.

And you ?

I just learned that there is a sub-forum dedicated to Asilidae. An administrator could move it in this topic, please ?

Looks a lot like Neomochtherus pallipes. Usually that species has black stripes on the femora. According to Engel N. schineri has an entirely white beard (mystax) and the first segments of the antennae should be yellow or red.

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
