Hello Gunnar,
it is a pity that it does not go up to the genus!
Thank you for your help.
Best regards,
Klaus

The problem is that once you collect the specimens is, the hairs tend to fall off, so if you know which species it is you usually don't know what it looks like when it is alive. If you collect them after you photograph them, this might change in the future...

Hello Gunnar,
thank you for the information. I have identified the problem, but the determination is not easier in the future.

I photograph moth flies and then collect them so I can identify them. Because the patterns are usually species-specific I will be able to identify living specimens of most species if I ever get to collect all the species (or, more realistically, if I collect with the help of colleagues around the world)...

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
