I see a pattern here, they seem to be related to fungi! They mate on it I think. Does anyone know if they lay there eggs on it?
It's Odiniidae. You have to wait for the specialist to go any further

Thanks to both of you! Indeed, the fungus also was a Fomes fomentarius growing on a fallen down tree.
Best regards, Ingo

On exact the fungus (Fomes fomentarius) where I found my first specimen in the last year I saw a fly sitting still for about 30 minutes. For me it looks like an oviposition (in a very slow way). Is this interpretation correct?
Other Odinia do it here in a similar way near the base on the bottom side of Ganoderma applanatum fungi. Greetings, Ingo

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
