I think this is a Muscid flly. Please confirm or correct me. Is it possible to give a more precise ID? I still have the specimen and could add info is this would help.

Thanks,

Martin

Hi, Martin!

I am no expert, but I would guess this is Muscina levida.
Best regards,
Jürgen

Yes, the pale scutellum tip and the smoothly bent M-vein led me to Muscina and the all black legs to levida. It is very abundant here, too.

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
