Thank you very much.
Is there a way to distinguish Sciapus versus Xanthochlorus in the field?
Regards, Ingo

Sciapus has vein M forked. Some species have prominent spines under the fore femora. The vertex is excavated, usually conspicuously.

Sciapodinae and Diaphorinae usually perch with wings spread. Other subfamilies usually perch with wings overlapping.

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
