I think it might be Hybos culiciformis but I am not sure how to separate it safely from Hybos femoratus and Hybos grossipes. Help, please!! Taken on bushes near a beach in Orio, N Spain on the 21nd July 2012. Piluca_Alvarez attached the following image: ![]() [158.19Kb] |

No idea anyone? I thought these shouldn't be too difficult. What do I need to photograph to be able to ID the 3 species? Thanks!! |

Hybos femoratus has anterior legs yellow. Hybos culiciformis has f2 with distinct ad and t2 with av, and the setae on scutum and scutellum are pale coloured. Hybos grossipes has f2 without strong ad and t2 without strong av, ans setae on thorax are black. Stephane. |

WOW!! Thanks a lot, Stephane!! My pictures are not good enough though I cannot see ad on f2 either av con t2 but probably it is due to the rubbishy picture But I see pale hairs on the scutellum. H. culiciformis then? Thanks!!Anyway, I know what I have to photograph next time ![]() |
