The visible characters are much like Gymnopternus: preapical setae on femora, strong setae on all tibiae (in a row of three on the hind tibia), R5 and M parallel, form of antennae similar (with presence or absence of setae on scape not visible at this magnification). Is there a simple way to distinguish the genera from a distance?

This fly lacks a comb on the fore tibiae and has long, pale postocular setae but I don't think that's conclusive.

From this angle of view, the following combination is conclusive: femora rather slender, knees blackened, abdomen shorter than thorax, wing much longer than abdomen, with strong veins, with vein M ending behind wing apex. It is characteristic for Campsicnemus, being unusual for Gymnopternus.
