All the keys lead either to Potamia or Drymeia. If Potamia, then it should be P. setifemur, which is a rare species, obviously not yet recorded from Austria (according to Gregor, The Muscidae of Central Europe). The specimen was caught last September near Innsbruck (ca 800 m above sea level) and is about 9mm long; female.

Hi Stephane, thank you for your reply! I went through the key in Gregor again and found the couplet which is slightly misleading. What confirmed my original conclusion was that the key in the Manual of Nearctic diptera also led to these two genera rather than to Phaonia. I have not checked that again, but after taking the other alternative in Gregor I land at Phaonia, which fits ... |
