Odd, can you see a strong pteropleural bristle on this specimen? I think Fausta should have it. Is it a male and can you extract the genitalia?

are you referring to sternopleuron(=katepisternum)? It has one strong bristle in there. For genitalia, now it is impossible as the specimen is too bristly to extract it. |

No, the pteropleuron is the area above the katepisternum and under the place where the wings attach. There is usually a patch of long hairs and sometimes long bristles. In my keys Fausta should have a strong pteroplueral bristle that points out and backwards Pity about the genitalia ... it's very helpful to extract them in all tachinids

Haven't seen Fausta in 20 years (other than in my collection) ! Dorsal shot would be helpful, to see important features. (broad vertex, paucity of ACR brisltes) Theo |
